An Early Start

The Elfferich group of companies was founded in the year 1939, in the name of F.C. Elfferich & ZN BV. The company began its operations dealing with fresh fruits and vegetables and continues to do so till date. The company is run now by the 3rd generation owner and director, Mr Marc Elfferich.

In 1989, almost 50 years later, Mr. Marc Elfferich ventured into a new line, dealing with the cultivation of gherkins and other food products related to the pickle industry (like gherkins, silverskin onions, different varieties of chillies and peppers etc.) Elfferich Pickles BV has come a long way since, with joint ventures in India, where these products are cultivated and packed either in drums or in customer’s jars.

Elfferich Expands

In the year 1998, Mr Marc Elfferich expanded the offering with the launch of Elfferich Commodities BV as the owner and director of the company. Elfferich Commodities started joint ventures in Sri Lanka and India for the production of pottingsoil substrates based on coconut and other coconut based products used in the horticultural, agriculture, as well as the urban, retail and industrial markets.

Enter Coir Substrates

In the year 2018, a new opportunity emerged in the coconut based products market and a need was felt to give more structure between the manufacturing and sales of the Coconut based products. This led to the founding of Elfferich Coir Substrates BV, purpose-built to address the Coir Substrates market.

Elfferich Coir Substrates BV supplies Coconut based pottingsoils to many reputed companies in numerous countries world – wide. The production facilities in Sri Lanka and India are RHP certified & Sedex certified and are considered to be among the best and most professional units in the world.

In India the production is fully mechanized and this ensures that the products meet all phytosanitary, chemical and physical norms. The process water in our factories is re-used in our own and neighbouring cocopalm plantations, thereby fully adhering to National and International standards.

Our factories set-up ensures also a continuous supply of products 12 months a year, even during the rainy seasons. This is quite unique and gives us the flexibility which is well appreciated by our customers.

Our production locations are located near large natural fresh water bodies and equipped with Reversed Osmosis units, to ensure that water supply will never be an issue. This allows us to serve our clients even better, and enforces our guarantee of the required volumes without any compromise on quality.

Over the last 30 years Elfferich Companies have proven to be innovative. We will continue to invest in our factories, to developing new products and production locations and develop new and alternative production methods to make even better and cleaner/greener products.
